On Top of the Mountain...

Flat Mountain in my novel is loosely based upon Signal Peak in Howard County, Texas. When we lived in Big Spring, this mountain was often in view. With my son's Cub Scout group, I was able to explore the top. The limestone was still black from Comanche signal fires and frequently being struck by lightening. In my story, the mountain is a little longer, and being further east than Signal Mountain is more heavily wooded with cedar around the base.
