A Real Place...

While the town of Flat Mountain in The Girl With the Flat Tire is fictitious, Concho County is a real place. It is one of the least populated counties in Texas. The county seat of Paint Rock has a population of only 273. Eden, located on Hwy 87 is the largest town with 2,766 residents. About half of the town's

population consists of inmates housed at the Eden Detention Center. Slightly over 4,000 people live in the entire county. That's 4 people per square mile!

When my family lived in West Texas, we would enjoy drives in the late evening on remote highways to count the tarantulas crossing the road and the jack rabbits hopping along the fence lines.
